What You Need to Get Started

In order to ski with us, all athletes will need a hard eared helmet, skis (race skis recommended), poles (if they are 6 years old or above /ready to use them), snow pants, ski jacket (club jackets for sale on connection with the program), and ski goggles. Along with all of the equipment you need, a minimum green run level of skiing is also required. Graduating from the Carpet to the chairlift is ideal.

For those interested, a ski swap is available. The best time to get gear is at our complementary welcoming BBQ held each year in September. At that time you’re welcome to bring all gear for the swap and pick out any equipment you may wish to purchase. Please put your full name and phone number on any gear you wish to sell. Coaches will be on hand to help with any questions about what you may need.

Common Program Questions

Are the Away Trips Mandatory?

No.  Completely optional, they’re an extra cost to cover the costs of
the coaches required to go.

What Does a Typical program Day look Like?

Morning Session: 9:20 – 11:30am
Lunch: 11:30 – 12:10pm (Unsupervised, parents must meet their children at lunchtime)
Afternoon Session: 12:10 – 3pm

What if We Can’t Make All the Scheduled Days?

No problem, it’s just the schedule! We understand that many other
athletic programs have conflicting schedules. A heads up if you’re not making a scheduled day of skiing is appreciated though.

Do You Cancel in Cold Weather?

We do monitor the cold weather and advise parents via email if there is any changes to the weekend skiing. Once temperatures are around -20 c to -22c and that is the “warmest” for the day, we may look to cancel.

Getting Your Child Comfortable on the Hill

For the first stages of being in a group we like to have the assistance of the parents loading on chairs and helping tailgun with the group as they travel down the slopes. Once your child is comfortable and you wish to take some runs just advise the coach.

We also hold a few events throughout the year to help get your child more comfortable with their fellow skiers and coaches! Besides the BBQ, we have our famous Fernie ski trip early in the season where we head away for a weekend of fun. This is a great mixer for new families to meet and create bonds for the season. Each age group also has different social events throughout the year…….you’ll have to sign up to find them all out!
