NEWS
The Snoflyers are delighted to announce that Kara Honsinger is going to be Head Coach for the Snoflyers Nancy Greene and Mogul Mites programs. Kara is very familiar to the CARC/ CASF family. She was Head Coach for the Nancy Greene/ Mogul Mites programs in 2001 to 2003. Kara is a great asset to the club. She is very enthusiastic, fun and an expert with these programs.
The Snoflyer programs are very important to the development of ski racers. Our coaches pride themselves on not only helping the children improve their fundamental skiing skills but they also provide excellent direction and activities for helping children mature. Opportunities are provided to the children to learn about sportsmanship, respect, healthy lifestyles and friendship.
HISTORY
The Snoflyers is a new organization created in order to meet the growning needs of this important group of young skiers. The Calgary Alpine Racing Club recognized that the Nancy Greene/Mogul Mite program needed special attention and an identity of its own. To meet this need, the Snoflyers was created.
The creation of the Snoflyers parallels the developmental approach identified by Alpine Canada Alpin in the Long term Athlete Development Plan (Aim 2 Win). By creating the Snoflyers, efforts have been focused on trying to ensure that the right athletic development is occuring at the right time. Alpine Canada Alpin recognizes that athletic development occurs in phases and that it is important to tailor age appropriate programs. The Snoflyers focus is FUNdementals and its programs will help encourage active participation in ski racing by focusing on mastering fundamental movements skills, agility, balance, co-ordination, motor development, flexibility, and on simple rules and ethics of sport. Ideally, within Mogul Mite and Nancy Greene programs, your child will not only become a better skier but will learn: Ski safety, co-operation, independance, listening skills, self confidence, goal setting, group/ peer learning and focus.
The Snoflyers still hold the same values and philosophies as CARC but with a seperate identity and primary focus better programs can be delivered.
By operating our programs out of both Nakiska Resort and Canada Olympic Park (COP), we are able to provide an excellent mix of Mountain experience and convenience. Weekends are spent in the mountains, while our mid-weeks are typically spent at COP.
