Kinder 1 is for athletes ages is 11 - 12 on or before December 31 of each season.
Please note we have capped our K-1 group at 14 athletes - As of September 12, 2008, we may have one spot available. On-line registration is available now, go to our home page to access online registration link.
At CARC, we offer a full program in order to develop our athletes full potential and passion for ski racing (Tues, Wed, Sat, Sun)
The K-1 program starts with regular dryland sessions beginning in July. Fall dryland is Tuesday and Thursday evening and Saturday afternoons. This includes a six week block of gymnastics.
Dryland sessions are varied and work on improving physical awareness, motor development, cardiovascular capacity, strength and flexibility. All of these elements combine to build strong, healthy athletes who will be more efficient on snow.
On snow training starts as soon as COP opens, this is usually around early/mid November. Week nights at COP usually consist of technical free skiing, as well as slalom and dual slalom gate training. We generally train slalom and giant slalom at Nakiska on the weekends when we have a wide selection of terrain to chose from.
Children in K-1 have the opportunity to experience a variety of racing styles. They will compete in the traditional Slalom and Giant Slalom disciplines but also compete in Super G, Super Combined and Kinder Kombi events. Alberta Alpine organizes a speed camp for all K1 athletes to attend prior to the speed races.
At the Kinder 1 level, we emphasis the elements of the AIM DOCUMENT as set out by Alpine Canada.
