Kinder 2 programming is for athletes whose age is 13 or 14 as of December 31 of each season.
NOTE: This Year's K-2 Program will be capped at 14 athletes.
The K-2 program starts with regular dryland sessions throughout the summer holidays, this includes a couple of dryland camps. Dryland continues through September and October, including a six week gymnastic block.
This coming season we are planning to travel to Colorado for a fall skiing camp. In Calgary, on snow training starts around mid November, when COP opens. Typically we will train Slalom or dual slalom at COP on weeknights and do more Giant Slalom and some speed training at Nakiska on the weekends. Nakiska has a wide selection of terrain to choose from in order to develop all facets of skiing and develop ski racing skills and techniques.
K-2 athletes will compete in a variety of different race disciplines. Slalom, GS, Super G, Kinder Kombi and Super Combined.
K-2 athletes have the opportunity to qualify for a number of extra ski camps and races. Alberta Alpine organise High Performance Camps for the best K-2's in the Province. This gives K-2's from different clubs a chance to ski against each other and get an idea of where they stand compared to other atheltes their age.
The top K-2's are selected to represent Alberta at the K-2 National Championships, where all the best K-2's in the country compete against each other. Based on performaces at the Nationals athletes are selected for Whistler Cup, an international childrens race event where some of the best K-1 and K-2 athletes from around the World come to compete against each other. The very best K-2 athletes will be selected to represent Team Canada and Alberta.
Another important event is the Western Canadian Championships. During the Westerns, around 140 K-2 athletes from Alberta and BC compete against each other in Slalom, GS and SG.
Charlie Wright and Dusty McLeay will run the K-2 program for 2009/10.
Charlie is the Program Director for CARC. Dusty is an alumni of the Club and used to be assistant Coach of the Junior team.
